1)Reggie) While at the gym I observed several people make big mistakes that could make the victims of crimes that could have be prevented. The first person i watched was a young man working out with his wallet and keys sitting on the floor. He put his self at risk to get is car, credit card, and identity stolen. This young man could have prevented this by bringing a lock to the gym. He could have left his wallet in his car and kept his car keys in his pocket.
The next individual was a young lady who was paying a bill or something similar to that over the phone in the gym. She was talking low. This place is filled with different people. She could have gotten information stolen from her. She also was not paying attention to her purse and that leaves her vulnerable for other problems. She could have taken care of this problem in her car or at home instead of in a public place.
This assignment made me more aware of the things that can make me vulnerable to crime. I will watch my myself more and make smart decisions. A small mistake can cause someone to commit a crime at my expense.
2)Demi) In my town where we live we have a couple different grocery stores, all on different sides of town. The Jewel seems to always be the busiest because it is a step up from walamart but always has great deals. So it seems to be the busiest of them all. It was just annouced to a mutual friend of mine that someone had been raped in the jewel parking lot in the middle of the day on Thursday. I could not wrap my head around it, in the middle of the parking lot in the middle of the day! no matter what day of the week that place is always busy. it seemed impossible to me.
So I went to this Jewel later this week with my family. As we walked in I just looked around the parking lot, it was big but everything seemed to be visable, every car every moving body it dont see how this crime took place here. Most people just appeared to walk straight to their cars and not engage in conversation. To my attention no one made themselves vulnerable. The only advice I can think of is the buddy system. it might seem dumb but I believe people attack of more often prey on individuals. if you have someone with you it might help your chances.
